Modul —

With diversity comes a sense of identity. The goal of this project was to create a desk that was CNC and flat packed. I wanted to investigate the key attributes of the creative class that is booming within society currently. With a creative comes gentrification of old buildings in city business centres and downtowns. These buildings normally will begin to have apartments and lofts. Within todays society micro apartments have gained popularity. With micro apartments there is a limit within the space and a constant struggle to balance objects within the home. The focus of Modul  was to create a workspace that could seamlessly integrate into this micro environment. Using a modular system, I created Modul, this workspace within the home acts as a feature wall. The main wall panel is made of a grid system with which upon you can hang different components with a hook designed specifically for this wall. Using its structure, Modul hides its desk component behind the feature wall, solving the problem of space and giving the user versatility within their home. There are four components so far (desk, shelf, cord holder, laptop holder), but these could be expanded upon. Using these different components, the user is able to be diverse with their choice of features and thus, giving them a sense of identity. Modul is visually appealing while creating a tactile and functional experience for the user.

Designed in Rhino 3D.
